Sustainability

Little Barnacle creates clothing for babies who are inheriting a planet that needs more love. As a brand, our aim is to not just talk the talk, but actually put our ethics into practice.

1% for the Planet

We are a member of 1% for the Planet, which means 1% of our total annual sales revenue (actual revenue, not just profits) is donated to environmental non-profits. 1% for the Planet certifies its members' donations as a way of preventing green-washing by holding companies accountable to the sustainability claims they make.

Production

Our manufacturing partner is GOTS certified (Global Organic Textile Standard), which ensures they meet ecological manufacturing and ethical workplace standards. Our clothing is produced with 100% GOTS organic cotton. Organic cotton is soft and safe for your baby's skin and much more earth-friendly than its GMO counterpart. Organic cotton is grown without hazardous pesticides or synthetic fertilizers, which pollute the soil, air and water. These chemicals harm ecosystems, biodiversity and the farmers and textile workers that produce cotton. 62% less energy and up to 91% less water is needed in organic cotton production compared with GMO cotton. GOTS also has a mandate on energy consumption.

The snaps on our bodysuits are OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified, meaning they are free of harmful levels of toxic chemicals and our fabric dyes are azo-free.

Packaging

Your orders are packaged in mailers and garment bags that are certified home-compostable and carbon neutral. You can re-use them and dispose of them in your personal compost bin or via a commercial composter. We do not include order confirmation forms in our packages so that we can minimize the materials (and eventual waste) you receive from us. All your order information can be found in your inbox.
